The Art Miles Mural Project©
  • is an international non-profit organization, home-based in San Diego, California, with satellite offices in Vienna, Austria, and Alexandria, Egypt.
  • was founded in 1997 by retired UN Executive, Joanne Tawfilis and her husband Dr. Fouad Tawfilis, shortly after orphans in Bosnia painted the first mural on a bullet-ridden bed sheet.
  • is a passionate and colorful 12-year movement combining the efforts of children and adults worldwide to promote global peace and harmony through mural art.
  • is creating 12 themed miles of collaborative mural paintings (In total, there will be 5,280 canvas and acrylic murals each 12 feet by 5 feet.).
  • will exhibit the murals during the “Exhibition of the Century” in 2010, when the art will be wrapped around the pyramids in Egypt to celebrate the Decade of Peace.
  • will travel to major cities around the world.
Over 50,000 individuals from over 125 countries have painted in villages, towns, cities, and at World Heritage locations around the world.

South Walton Art Miles Mural Project
  • In the fall of 2007, Butler Elementary created 8 murals.
  • These encompass themes of neighborhood/community and natural habitat/landscapes.
  • Through artistic expression, the beauty of our area is depicted while promoting an awareness of importance of living in harmony and protecting our environment.
  • The initiative continues with ongoing school participation and community days of paintings (“mural marathons”).
South Walton culminating weekend celebration will be held in March 2009.
  • Local and international murals will be displayed.
  • Art Miles Mural Project© founders will participate.
  • Films from around the world will be shown.
  • Sample Egyptian pyramid will be exhibited
  • Johannes Linstead, Canada’s “Guitarist of the Year” will perform.
  • Community Yoga will occur each morning.
  • All are invited to participate in the creation of community murals.

We are proud of the growth of our project thanks to the dedicated and loyal team members, artists, volunteers, and participants who work together to make this project possible.

Murals heal.   Murals communicate. Murals bring people together.
No two are ever alike, but murals cross continents
with cultural differences and similarities.
